Fitness Challenge Day 11 – Sunshine on My Shoulder

Today is V Day – V for Visualize… V for Victorious…V for Vibrant…V for Vim and Vigor!!

First of all, it is Sunday as I write this and that means WEIGH IN DAY. My results for this morning are 438.1 pounds! That means that in 11 days I have dropped 11.9 pounds, so let’s just say 12 pounds. Following is a graph of the results so far:

Yesterday was a marvelous Spring day! The weather was perfect and was probably one of the nicest days we’ve had in weeks. We started off the morning with a good healthy breakfast of steel rolled oats with some pecans and flavored was some REAL vanilla and maple syrup. We also had some fresh squeezed grapefruit juice for breakfast.

As Julianne had to work and I did not get my walk in the night before, I decided that after dropping her off I would go to the Kentucky Arboretum and take a walk. At this time of year the Arboretum is a beautiful place to walk and enjoy the beautiful creations that are abounding. There are so many lovely flowers and flowering trees along the way.

It was still only about 8:30 in the morning as I walked in and saw the sun was just coming up and it was still cool outside. Perfect environment for a nice walk. The sun cast long shadows and I could feel the sun shining over my shoulder and it reminded me of the John Denver song “Sunshine on My Shoulders“. Once again I thought of my friends of Team Sumoflam and could relate to them as being “sunshine on my shoulder” and they “make me happy!”

I pushed through and got 1.69 miles done which is now my best work yet. I probably could have and probably should have walked even further but I ran out of trailing was right by the car so I decided to go ahead and call it a day.

After my walk, I returned home and, like Julianne, I had a lot of contract work to do so I headed down to my computer and got to work and pretty much worked straight through the afternoon before it was time to pick Julianne up. In fact, I worked straight through lunch and missed lunch completely. I was in a zone! (But I would have much rather been outside!)

I can even get a walk in at Costco!

After picking Julianne up, we had a number of errands that had to be run. We were almost out of fruits and vegetables despite the great amount that we get with Bountiful Baskets. So we headed to Costco to pick up more as we can get them in bulk and they are cheaper price. Knowing full well that we spend a lot of time walking around Costco doing our shopping, I decided just for fun to do the map my walk application and see exactly how much we actually walk while in Costco. Ha! Turns out that on this day I walked from my car with all the shopping and back to the car 1.39 miles! Both Julianne and I were quite surprised about the distance that we walked.

Technically, that means that I put in over 5K in walks today. Woo Hoo!

Finally, after about three hours of shopping we returned home and by that time my knees were killing me – both from the extended walks and probably from sitting in the car too long. (Face it – its tough for a 438 pound dude to walk 5 miles!!) In any case we had leftovers for dinner as we had quite a few things from the last few days.  After dinner I decided that maybe a hot tub would help me feel a bit better. So into the hot tub we went and I relaxed and then was able to sleep fairly well.

Today, being Sunday, will be a good day of rest for me in terms of walking and hopefully my knees will feel better for me to start the day off on Monday fullbore again.

Yeah David, loving that sloping chart, baby! I can totally believe the workout at Costco; it’s huge! I love that you have an Arboretum to walk in too, kinda jealous of that, but in a good way. Thanks for letting me share your successes vicariously. I believe you can do this thing! Blessings on Julianne for being so supportive too.
