Fitness Challenge Day 21 – Don’t Eat Watermelon Before Bed

Don’t Eat Watermelon Before Bed

Day 21 started out late.  I discovered that eating watermelon before bed is not a good idea.  I was up a lot at night “taking care of business.” And, Julianne had to be in to work early.  It was destined to be a long day as we also planned to go to Louisville to see the Sneak Peak Preview of the new Plant-Based themed documentary “PlantPure Nation” which was showing for only one night.

So, ultimately, I did not get a walk in (though I did walk the long pathway into work and back and forth a few times, so, that probably counts for about a half-mile walk.)

After some fruit for breakfast (we didn’t have time to juice), I enjoyed a great taco salad – made with refried beans, lentils and taco seasoning.  I never dreamed I would be enjoying lentils….

I left work early.  My “small victory” for the day would be going to Louisville with Julianne and my daughter Marissa to watch PlantPure Nation.

Baxter Avenue Filmworks in Louisville showed the Sneak Peak feature film for one night only.

The movie was not only sold out, but was put into an overflow theater for two showings.  The Director, Nelson Campbell was there to speak, and, to our surprise, so was his father, world renowned author and nutritionist T.Colin Campbell…author of the groundbreaking book “The China Study.”  The movie was powerful. I am writing a review of the movie — read it here!

Got home late and an early, 6:30 morning for Julianne.

I was at this screening in Louisville as well! It was such a brilliant film and so eye-opening. I cannot wait to bring more of my non plant-based friends to see it once it opens in July. I’ve been following a WFPB diet for almost 2 years, off and on, and have also experienced many great improvements in my health.

I’ve been reading your blog for the last hour and going day by day with the challenge that you’ve put yourself on this past month. Great job man! You are doing so great! Reading your words is very inspiring. I have been building myself back up from several injuries that I sustained from running over the past few months, but I started out like you in many ways. When I began this journey, I was pushing 400lbs. I am currently nearing 300lbs. I also started with a 5k and eventually made my way up to a half marathon. I dream of running a full marathon someday, but it will have to be when I am even lighter. 300lbs and running really brings on the pain and risk of injury.

I have been on a plateau for several months, but that is mostly due to injuries and not really following my plan with eating 100%. Your inspiring words are helping me to get back on track tho. Just because I can’t get out and move doesn’t mean my eating should too suffer. I’m going to finish reading your journey up to the current day tonight and then I’ll maybe have some more words to share with you. Congrats on the success so far. You have a wonderful outlook on the journey. Never focusing on a number, but shooting for overall health..that is the key to success I believe.

Tim: thank you so very much for the kind words and for sharing part of your story! It’s individuals like you did inspire me to keep moving forward. Though I don’t necessarily dream of running a half marathon, I do dream of getting back on the softball fields and playing softball again. And you were correct in that the journey is just a journey that you keep moving forward on and there is no finish line! Maybe someday in the near future I can meet you in Louisville and we can go have a good vegan lunch together. 🙂
