Fitness Challenge Day 35 – Runnin’ Down a Dream

I have always been a Tom Petty fan and by far, one of my favorite songs of his is “Runnin’ Down a Dream” (co-written by Jeff Lynne of ELO and the Traveling Wilburys).  As I was walking yesterday this song came on and it is a major “Pump Up” song for me.  As I listened to the lyrics, which follow below, it made me ponder revised lyrics to match my journey.  These were on my mind most of the remainder of the evening as I really am doing what I can to run down my dream.  Here are Tom Petty’s lyrics first.

It was a beautiful day, the sun beat down
I had the radio on, I was drivin’
Trees flew by, me and Del were singin’ little Runaway
I was flyin’
Yeah runnin’ down a dream
That never would come to me
Workin’ on a mystery, goin’ wherever it leads
Runnin’ down a dream
I felt so good like anything was possible
I hit cruise control and rubbed my eyes
The last three days the rain was un-stoppable
It was always cold, no sunshine
Yeah runnin’ down a dream
That never would come to me
Workin’ on a mystery, goin’ wherever it leads
Runnin’ down a dream

Walkin’ Down the Pounds

So, as I walked, here is my version of the lyrics – calling it “Walkin’ Down the Pounds:”

It was a beautiful day, the sun beat down
I had Pandora on, I was walkin’
As trees went by, me and Tom were singin’, got my rhythm down
I was movin’
Yeah walkin’ down the pounds
Getting them off of me
Workin’ on a healthy life, goin’ wherever it leads
Walkin’ down the pounds
I felt so good like anything was possible
I was flowing swear and rubbed my eyes
The last three days the heat was un-stoppable
It was always warm, no sunshine
Yeah walkin’ down the pounds
Getting them off of me
Workin’ on a healthy life, goin’ wherever it leads
Walkin’ down the pounds

Cinco de Mayo “Smile at a Mile”

It is always fun to have inspiring songs that help push me through the weaker moments.  Yesterday was a “push day” for me as I went for a second day in a row of walking.  Monday was a big day with the two mile walk and then the lawn mowing.  But, my knees felt better, so I did make the effort to get out and walk.  I even got my Smile at a Mile in!

I walked only 1.35 miles, but the key was that I pressed forward on the journey…hit cruise control and rubbed my eyes (as they filled with stinging sweat – it was about 85° out and sunny).

And you know what?  My knees felt pretty good and I felt great about myself, having pushed through another walk – a walk of life to begin making my life better.

Guzzling water – even when NOT thirsty. A real challenge.

On hot days like yesterday, I am learning the importance of drinking water.  Over the weekend Julianne challenged me to drink a gallon a day.  It is a real challenge to drink that much water, especially when not thirsty.  But, I am taking up the challenge.  There are a number of benefits.  According to WebMD:

1. Drinking Water Helps Maintain the Balance of Body Fluids

2. Water Can Help Control Calories

3. Water Helps Energize Muscles

4. Water Helps Keep Skin Looking Good

5. Water Helps Your Kidneys

6. Water Helps Maintain Normal Bowel Function

After the walk, we had a good dinner of a wrap filled with all sorts of goodies – grilled potatoes, Spanish rice, lettuce, avocado, tomatoes, green salsa and corn.  We had a great fruit salad afterwards.

Dinner – a potato and rice wrap (with lots of other goodies in it), some yellow squash and fresh fruit)

It was a good day…and I will continue to be Runnin’ Down A Dream by Walkin’ Down the Pounds!
