Fitness Challenge Day 41 – Another One Bites the Dust

Well, here I go again on a song theme.  As I walked yesterday the Queen song “Another One Bites the Dust” came over Pandora. It was perfect for my walk pace and also a perfect example of what is happening on this journey.

Another one gone. And another one gone.  Another one bits the dust.  Yes, another pound gone, another mile gone, another one bites the dust.

This journey is a numbers game.  The better I eat, the more I walk, the more pounds will be lost. Another one will always bite the dust.

As day 12 of May hits, I am over 11 miles into my goal to hit 30 miles in 30 days. MapMyWalk is tracking it for me too.  I am confident that I will get there this month.  A big deal for a big guy!!

Drinking my Green Juice

I started off the day right with a good jar of green juice.  It was funny…Julianne drank hers on the way into work and made this horrid face…apparently the juice was quite bitter.  She knows I don’t like the bitter juice.

Anyway, I got to the office dreading my juice.  Was a bitter?  Was it extra strong?  Spicy?

But, to my surprise, it was quite good.  It certainly tasted of veggies, but also had some sweet to it.  Not bitter at all.  May she didn’t filter it or mix it well before pouring.

Anyway, the juice was easy to get through and was enjoyable indeed. And I finding juice to be getting easier to handle now that my body is becoming accustomed to it.

Salad in A Jar for May 11

For lunch it was Salad in a Jar time. I love the salads that Julianne puts together.  Today’s salad was like a black bean salsa salad.

She included salsa, black beans, corn, onions, cherry tomatoes, some lettuce and some TLC.

It was a wonderful lunch and actually quite filling.

Doing the juice for breakfast and salad for lunch routine is really not as bad as I originally thought it would be. I thought I would be hungry — and, if I am, I also bring a couple of pieces of fresh fruit along — but I think the juice actually makes me feel full for a few hours and the salads are humongous.

You may think that the Salad in a Jar looks sparse, but actually, it is a HUGE salad!!

So, another one bites the dust — another good healthy meal!

My Smile at a Mile for May 11

Upon arrival at home, I absolutely did not want to take a walk.  It was moist out, warm and I was feeling lazy.  I was worried about some contract projects I had to do as well.  Despite all that, it was also one of those days that I needed to push myself and just get out there and do it.

By the time I got a mile into it I had warmed up and was feeling better about things.  A couple of folks from the neighborhood gave me a thumbs up and one guy out walking his dog even told me that he and his wife followed my Facebook posts.

Encouragement always helps…and after that mile, another one bit the dust.

Ultimately, I had tried to push to two miles, but was getting exhausted and hot.  I finally finished the day with a 1.81 mile walk on the route noted in my MapMyWalk map below.

Sweatoflam after a good hard walk

After a walk like this I officially turned into Sweatoflam! It was so hot and humid.

Of course, sweat is good.  But so is hydration.  As part of this journey am learning new “habits” and methodologies.  I have always been one to drink when I am thirsty.  But many exercise trainers encourage drinking lots of water.  Indeed, I see some carrying gallon bottles with them everywhere.

Yet, I am not one to force water into myself for the sake of getting a “gallon” of water in me. But, I am keeping water with me at all times now, something I didn’t used to do.  (In fact, I used to always seem to have a bottle of Diet Coke hanging around with me in the olden days of yore….)

But, with all this sweating I know I need to keep more hydrated and I am making the effort.

Portabello Tacos

Finally, later in the evening we had a nice dinner…in fact, it was an INCREDIBLE DINNER!!  One of the best I have had since starting my journey.  Julianne made Portabello Tacos…just like regular steak tacos, but substituted Portabello Mushrooms that had been marinated in a steak seasoning and some other spices.

Covered in a spicy salad and coupled with vegan refried beans and a killer Spanish Rice, it was a dinner I will not soon forget.  Mexican food can taste good without the meat, cheese and sour cream.

Indeed, this was a meal that the PlantPure Nation could be very proud of!
