Fitness Challenge Day 43 – My Favorite Cheerleader and Help Meet

My favorite cheerleader – Julianne!

Every competition has some sort of cheerleaders. At a football game or basketball game we recognize them in their cheerleading uniforms.  But, in other challenges and competitions, the REAL cheerleaders are in the background cheering us on.

My “cheerleader” is my sweet wife Julianne. My soul mate, my eternal companion and, ultimately, my “help meet.”  In the Old Testament of the Bible we read in Genesis 2:18

And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.

Julianne has always been my “help meet”

The word “help meet” is an interesting translation of two Hebrew words, namely “ezer” and “k’enegdo.” Biblical scholars have written that “ezer” is a combination of two roots, one meaning “to rescue”, “to save,” and the other meaning “to be strong.” The noun “ezer” appears 21 times in the Hebrew bible and eight of these instances signify “savior.”

As for the second word “k’enegdo,” which is commonly translated as “meet for” or “fit for,” can also mean something along the lines of “exactly corresponding to,” like when you look at yourself in a mirror.

So, perhaps she is my “mirror savior.”  Julianne is always there to help me (think “save/rescue”) as she encourages with love (sometimes hard and/or tearful love).  She cooks great meals, she makes efforts to learn correct principles and then teaches them to me (such as a plant strong or PlantPure eating habit).  Julianne is the “Perfect Cheerleader,” and I am grateful to have such a wonderful “help meet” in my life….indeed, honored beyond words.

Yesterday was another great day of small victories.  I started the day off with a good dose of a strong, yet pretty tasty juice.

Julianne used beets, carrots, apples, celery and blueberries in this morning breakfast for me and it was energizing.  I actually drank it during a meeting at work.

People notice large mason jars filled with a reddish green liquid.

After my juice and meeting I rolled through the day.  Lots of work at the office as things continue to move forward on the Great American Fitness Challenge.  We are now only 30 days away from the big event day…which also means I am 30 days away from walking in the 5K event portion of the Challenge, which also includes a 15K race, and two challenging obstacle course events.

For lunch it was Salad-in-a-Jar again.  Today’s salad was lovingly prepared by Julianne the night before and included apples and almonds and other goodies.  Then I topped it off with the famed 3-2-1 dressing, which I made (I am not totally helpless!!).

Salad-in-a-Jar is always a good way to go.  Easily transported and stored. It can last a couple of days in the fridge and it pours easily into a bowl.

A good healthy quick lunch option.  Coupled with some fat free pretzel crackers for that bready crunch, it really does make a nice meal.

Walking to HomeGoods

After work, we made a quick run to HomeGoods.  Julianne wanted to show me a couple of things and so we did a little “window shopping,” and enjoyed some quality fun time together.

Continuing my effort to park and walk when shopping, we parked at the end of the parking lot and walked in.  We then walked over to the grilling store for a couple of photos in a big chair.

Our luscious dinner

After our visit to HomeGoods, we headed home where Julianne, my favorite cheerleader, put together a yummiferous dinner of mushrooms sauteed in a tomatillo/chile broth (derived from making green salsa a few days ago) and then sprinkled with pepper, some grilled asparagus (on the Big Green Egg of course!) as well as grilled corn on the cob.  We also had some steamed and spiced fingerling red potatoes and finished it off with fresh cantaloupe.

Either I am getting hungrier or the food is getting tastier.  I honestly think it is the latter!!

My Smile at a Mile

I was determined to get a walk in today, despite some knee pains. It was really a beautiful evening with clear skies and temperatures in the mid 60s.  A lovely evening for a walk.  So, after dinner off I went, with the intent of getting about a mile and a half in, since my knees were hurting.

However, as I pushed on, I was energized, first by the weather and then by neighborhood “Team Sumoflam fans” who stopped me to cheer me on.

My Two Mile Smile

Ultimately, I got a 2.26 mile walk in!  This is the longest walk I have taken on this journey thus far…in fact, the longest since I did the 5K in 2007!

Of course, I was able to get a Two Mile Smile in today since I made the Two Miles mark in my walk.

Not bad for a 425 pound guy with achy knees.

All in all, it was a Wonderful Wednesday for me.  I felt great and all I can say is YESSS!!!

I am doing this and will continue to!
