Back in the early 1970s former Beatle Ringo Starr put out an album and had a big hit off of it called “It Don’t Come Easy.” The first lyrics of the song lyrics expound, “You’ve got to pay your dues if you wanna sing the blues, and you know it don’t come easy.” Well, the same can be said for losing weight and getting stronger… “You’ve got to pay your dues if the weight you wanna lose, and you know it don’t come easy.”

I am struggling diligently to alleviate 30 years of health mismanagement. It is not a fun thing to do. I like walking and I like exercise, but the health mismanagement over the years has ruined my knees, one of which I had an operation on a few years ago And it also hurts the hips. Walking one and a half to two miles with 438 pounds is a big deal! But it must be done and it “don’t come easy!”

I had a successful Wednesday…started the off with some nice green juice with lots of fresh pineapple in it.  It was a refreshing way to start off the morning.

Then, for lunch it was Salad-in-a-Jar time again. Julianne made a nice black bean salad with a bit of zing to it and lots of greens.  Looked good, tasted even better.  Even included some wonderful heirloom cherry tomatoes from Bountiful Baskets.

After work is what off to the house and time to walk.  I decided that this time I would walk until my knee hurt and then push a little further.  I enjoyed the beauty along the way…the proverbial “stop and smell the roses.”  I made it 1.5 miles today.  Not as far as previous days, but I did not want to kill the knee.  It was the furthest I had ever walked in my own neighborhood!!

While walking, Julianne made a nice dinner.  We had multigrain rice with some great flavors, a spicy cauliflower and she made a new dish with asparagus, mustard and garlic.  It was delectable!

The sad thing is that it took me 30 years to put on all of this weight.  I am trying to get it off faster and certainly don’t want it to take 30 years. It don’t come easy…but I am working hard to pay my dues.

Hang in there, Honeychile! Geez, it’s only been two weeks, you need to cut yourself a break here: you’re doing amazingly well. It’s not a ‘diet’, it’s a new lifestyle, so you’re only 15 days into a new life! You’re just a newborn…a newborn with funky knees. Maybe there is some alternative exercise you could fall back on for when your knees are hurting from walking? Cheer up, baby! 🙂
