Personal Fitness Challenge Day 17 – It Takes a Lot of Guts (To Be a BIG Loser)

As I was walking on Thursday morning early, it dawned on me that it takes a lot of guts to carry out this challenge that I am on. Then, with the joking mindset that I typically have, I realized that it takes a lot of guts to be a BIG loser! Well, the guts I certainly have, and I am on my way to being a big loser I believe.

When I started this about 17 days ago, I did it with a lot of trepidation. My knees hurt every day. Occasionally my back hurts. It seems that there is always some kind of reason to not get out and walk. But I have pushed myself to do so.

Then there is the eating thing. I have never been totally happy with a 100% whole foods, plant-based dietary regimen. I will be the first to admit that I love my meat and I love my cheese. The sweets don’t tempt me, but meat and cheese do.

Don’t get me wrong. I love to eat vegetables. I love to eat many of the foods that are prepared that are 100% whole foods and plant-based. Julianne makes some amazing dishes. But, just like trying to work with bad knees, there are some days that it’s hard to go without some of those things that I have a habitually loved for 50 or more years.

And this is where the “guts” really kicks in. I know that in order to lose my physical “gut,” I must make “gutsy” moves in my exercise and dietary regimen in order to facilitate a more rapid loss and weight, increase in strength and betterment of my vitals such as cholesterol, blood pressure, etc.

And so here I am, working hard through the pain and through the hunger pangs at times.

And fortunately, success has not eluded me. I continue to lose weight and continue to strengthen myself. But it is a long, grueling process!

As I noted in yesterday’s blog post, I was up early in the morning and walked. It was the first time I had done something like that in a long long time. It was nice walking in the quiet solitude of the morning, but when I got home I was once again exhausted and is the day ended I am tired by 8 PM.

So a new chapter in my “guts” will need to be taking place as I pursue exercising in the morning over exercising in the evening when I am stressed and tired. We will see how that goes over the next two weeks of April.

Gotta keep juicing it

In the meantime, I have not been able to get the juice that I had planned on doing because we run out of things to make juice with, but bountiful baskets will be here on Saturday and that will provide a bounteous amount of fruits and vegetables for our indulgence in both juice and meals.

Yesterday was a leftover day for meals and then date night.  We had all-veggie sushi at the Asian Bistro Express in Lexington.  It was good stuff!
